Augustine's capacity to write about his love of God is amazing. To modern eyes, it can seem a bit heavy at points, but that doesn't detract from the way that he can show his adoration like few other writers. The excerpts from St. Anselm and St. Bernard were both interesting. The latter is particularly noteworthy in how well and how deeply Bernard is able to analyze himself and his motives.
