letter writer - Short biography
- Lady Arbella Stuart was an English aristocrat whose royal Tudor blood put her in direct line to inherit the crown from the childless Queen Elizabeth I. She was the only child of Elizabeth Cavendish and Charles Stuart, 1st Earl of Lennox, and a great-grandchild of Queen Margaret of Scotland, herself a daughter of King Henry VII of England. Orphaned in childhood, Arbella was raised by her maternal grandmother Bess of Hardwick. In 1610, Arbella was imprisoned by King James I for secretly marrying William Seymour, another potential candidate for the throne, and she died in the Tower of London.
