Naoyuki Tomomatsu

Equally atrocious and brilliant, "Hontô wa eroi Gurimu dôwa: Reddo Suwôdo" is a startling mix of fetishized Japanese schoolgirls and blood-splashing swordplay. Asami plays Beniko. a sword-wielding, stockings-and-suspenders wearing, red-cloaked avenger whose task is to kill rape-obsessed werewolves. The storyline is fantastically bonkers but seems clear that men are slavering sex-obsessed monsters that woman have to guard themselves against. It offers a potted history of Japanese mythology and an unusual sub-textural reading of Little Red Riding Hood in between Beniko beating-up and sword-slashing any man or werewolf that crosses her path. The werewolf make-up is comprised of simple rubber masks and the fight choreography is fairly standard. Asami is powerful and kinetic in the lead role but the film is stolen by beautiful porn princess Momoka Nishina who puts in a wonderfully lavicious turn.… (more)
