Andrew Wareham

A quiet end to a quite good series. Wareham accurately captures the "Raj" mentality that dominated the British Pacific Campaign. FDR firmly put down Churchill's "Save the Empire" plans but the sahibs still were in full force in India. Slim, arguably Britain's best WW2 General. Montgomery was a distant second, stopped the Japanese advance from Burma to India with a primarily non British Army. Thomas Stark's thinking and battle planning, harshly perhaps, reflect appropriately Dominion attitude of the times.
Wareham's characterizations suitably support his decision making and keep the storyline lively and interesting.… (more)

Nick is given his old ship back and faces the challenge of building a crew from scratch. Demonstrating that it pays to advertise, he spreads the word and they flock to "Bloody Nick", a proven purveyor of prize money. Off to the Med to fight certainly the French, maybe the Spanish, and occasionally the Moors. His charter to rove, bring death to the French and perhaps some Spaniards who were in doubt about which side to join. Another fun read in this very good series. You might even be challenged to go online and seek an occasional definition.… (more)
