Two brothers. Two kids. Lots of connections. When a little boy and a little girl are found in the woods next to a dead body and a brutally injured man, they are not sure what to think. The only witness, the boy, won’t speak.

This book was a real rollercoaster, and the twist at the end made it all the more interesting. I love this series because the author has a way of turning suspense in ways that I least expect. While the story is definitely sadder due to the child aspect, it was a definite nail biter. Character development was phenomenal.

Narration was spot on.

A grave filled with corpses of all ages. Jean and Marty are stumped. At first, they don’t believe the murders are connected, but as the identify of the corpses are revealed, it becomes clear that they’re all connected in some way. What they don’t know, however, is that the killer is someone close to their immediate family, and the next person to go missing will be someone dear to them.

As with all the books in this series, this one will keep you guessing who the bad guy really is. I loved the redemption line of young Brad as he struggles through his own issues and comes out better for it at the end of the story.

The best part about these books is how human the characters feel. It doesn’t feel like I’m reading fiction when diving into this series, and I’ve grown to love all the characters, Hope especially for everything that she endured in this piece.

Narration was beautifully done.

This story really ponders the idea of which is more influential to our behavior—nature or nurture.

When young Brad Madison is found playing video games with his dead parents in the next room, Detective Jean Whitley is stumped. She doesn’t want to believe Brad could be responsible. Neither does Dr. Hope Rubin. However, as the story amps up they are both forced to look to the truth. Sometimes the correct answer is the easiest.

My favorite thing about this series (I started at book four and worked backwards) is how well the author creates these characters. They feel like real people. For instance, the scenes with the teasing in the police station and the genuine concern that Jean and Hope felt for Brad. Also, the pain that Brad experienced while coming to terms with what he was. It was a very powerful rollercoaster of emotions.

The narrator did a fine job of dictating the story. She spoke slow and clear, enunciating the right words.

Every parent wants what’s best for their child. Faceless takes that idea to the next level.

After a string of high school girls are found with their faces burnt, Detective Whitley fears for her daughter. Even more so because the girls in question were friends with her. Fearful between her daughter’s safety and the nagging suspicion that she was involved, Detective Whitley walks the line between doing her job and protecting her child.

This book is full of suspense and really leaves you to question the idea of morality and what is right and wrong when it comes to your family and those you are close to.

Narration was spot on for this book, the diversity of voices bringing the characters perfectly to life.
