Description
In the Bernhard Goetz shooting incident, Barry Allen was one of four young men shot by Bernie or Bernhard Goetz on a 2 train in Manhattan on December 22, 1984.  Goetz claimed that they were trying to mug him.  Allen, along with Darrell Cabey, James Ramseur, and Troy Canty were together on the train when Goetz entered.  Canty asked (according to him) or demanded (according to Goetz) five dollars, whereupon Goetz opened fire on all four.   Allen took the fifth amendment in the criminal trial.  The case opened an intense debate on the limits of self-defense and vigilantism

Barry Allen committed two robberies after the shooting, one of them a chain snatching in the elevator of the building where he lived.[52] The second arrest brought him a sentence of up to four years for probation violation.[
