Major Calbourne Rutherford, Earl of Ashendon. Calhoune was a second son, with a career in the army, and then in diplomacy and espionage. His twice-widowed father and older brother Henry died within a year of one another. He found himself with two unhappy half-sisters, whom he didn't know how to deal with, and a niece that Henry neglected to mention.
