(Fictitious character) David Jarvis, the younger child of Sir Charles Jarvis, was a great disappointment to his father. He was somewhat dreamy, and at times wanted to be a poet or an artist. Lord Jarvis sent him to his uncle in India to be straightened out, but the climate was bad for David, and he was sent home on the doomed ship the Harmony
