Dr. Rugen was a neighbor of the de Leyers who wanted a gentle horse for his son to ride. Snowbound seemed like the perfect mount, but he was determined to remain with Harry de Leyer, and kept returning to his Hollandia farm. the sale was reversed, and, impressed by the jumping ability required for Snowman to escape and return to Hollandia farm, de Leyer began training him as a jumper.
