He and Robin Hood met when they battled over the right-of-way on a log bridge, and he was said to be Robin's chief lieutenant and second-in-command of the Merry Men. John Little or Little John in Wikipedia John Little (2), chronicled in Forbidden Fruit was a North Carolina born slave who ran away after his master refused to allow him to visit his ailing mother. He returned, and endured a series of beatings. Eventually taken to Tennessee, he married a frail slave named Eliza. Warned to he was about to receive a severe beating, they ran away; John frequently had to carry Eliza since she was too frail to travel on her own. They escaped to Canada in the early 1840s and settled in the wilderness. |
