(Fictitious character) Les McMaster is a successful Broadway director who is restaging Annie! Kay Powell's client, Bruno, a talented dog, has a good shot at getting the role of Sandy, which might also might lead to a movie role. Trent Barclay, who with his wife, Louise, owns Bruno is so obnoxious to McMasters that he may ruin the deal. McMasters also wants to direct a "serious" drama, which would be a change for him; he needs the backing of producer Moshe Moskowitz.
