(Fictitious character) Lord Rankin is a successful financier. He inherited the title unexpectedly, and his money is from his career. He is married to Emily Rankin, née Shires, the younger daughter of the Earl of Clifford. It created a scandal because her older sister, Lady Cynthia was not married. Since the Cliffords have little money, Lady Cynthia lives with the Rankins.
