The widowed owner of a store in Salem, Massacusetts. Her husband was lost at sea. Their son, Billy, in his teens, works at a rope walk, but dreams, to his mother's despair, of going to sea on a merchantman. She was Will Rees' landlady when he stayed in Salem.
