Description

Description
1. (Fictitious character) The third and only boy of the four Maynard children. In birth order they were Anne, Judith, Phil, and Lois. Their father was wealthy until the crash of 1929, after which he killed himself. Prior to that, the family had a townhouse in New York City and a summer home, the Birches, to which they retreated after the crash.

The two older sisters married, their mother eventually died, and Lois and Phil, a not very successful lawyer, were left living in the crumbling house, which they tried to maintain on his legal earnings and the royalties from Lois' mystery novels.
