Description
Smenkhare: Egyptian Pharaoh, believed to be the successor of the famous, or infamous, Akhenaten. He was the husband of Akhenaten's oldest daughter. His reign was very brief -- perhaps three or four years, possibly 1347-1344 B.C.E. He was succeeded by the famous Tutankhamon. A mummy believed to have been his has been recovered; it seems to indicate that he was Akhenaton's son (and hence that his wife was his half-sister). But the evidence is very vague and incomplete (it appears that his funeral equipment may have been meant for a woman), and his burial quite hasty.
