Transit is the story of Dr. Jessamyn Quilter, who commits the perfect murder, killing her abusive husband with cunning and consummate skill. She gets away scot–free, but her evil deed unbalances the cosmos.
Desperate to make a fresh start, she books a lengthy voyage on the container ship MV Andaman Pearl to contemplate her future. After an auspicious beginning, things go terribly wrong. Her quest to atone leads deep into the Amazonian rainforest and an unlikely assortment of jaguars, shamans, pink dolphins, teacher trees, and the guardians of the cosmos, Grandmother Aya and Anaconda Woman.
Transit is a riveting, multilayered tapestry that defies genre, twisting and turning like the mighty Amazon itself, in a journey of transfiguration. If you like speculative fiction - part thrilling adventure, part magical realism, and part coming-of-age narrative, Transit might be your kind of novel.
Kirkus Reviews says "Our verdict: ✓ Get It."

A recent five-star review on Amazon calls Transit a "Page-Turing and Thought-Provoking Thrill" and promises the novel "is guaranteed to blow your mind. It blew mine, chapter after enthralling chapter. Do not be put off by the size of this book; the almost-400 pages go fast, because every chapter hooks you into reading the next... and the next.
Transit is a who-done-it in which you know from the outset exactly who the murderer is and how the deed is done so the killer gets away clean. Plus, author Malin crafts the story so you wind up having empathy for the killer.
Following the murder, our protagonist embarks on a voyage, both literally and figuratively. It's the first of many transits. You will read about the most fantastic people and places, exotic cuisines and cultures, music and arts, packed along with plenty of sea-faring and land-based excitement.
Intelligent characters abound, especially women. I find adventure tales often fall flat in this latter regard, but Transit does not disappoint.
I must add, if you like a sexy read, you are in for a treat with Transit! There is something for just about every persuasion here.
The final transit is both psychological and spiritual, both grueling and rewarding. I finished my read of the book by closing my eyes and thinking for a long, long time."
