DescriptionsEdit Descriptions
- Dave Fearless seriesThe series of books about Dave Fearless began with a serial story in Golden Hours in 1901 by Edward Stratemeyer called "The Rival Ocean Divers". This was published in book form in 1905 by Stitt with that title. Both versions of this story were issued under the "Roy Rockwood" pseudonym. This is the only volume personally written by Stratemeyer.Stratemeyer wrote outlines for the next two books and assigned them to Weldon J. Cobb for publication in 1906 and 1908. The three were reprinted by Sully in 1918.The three volumes were reprinted in thick paperbacks with pulp paper in 1926 as part of the Garden City Publishing paperbacks, a group of several Syndicate series designed to provide fiction reading material to newsstand shoppers. Early volumes (4-9) were ghostwritten by Howard R. Garis. In 1926 Stratemeyer took out an ad seeking fiction writers for his Syndicate. This ad was noticed by Leslie McFarlane and volume 10 of this series, Dave Fearless Under the Ocean, became his first Syndicate book and his first book overall. Later in 1926 McFarlane began work on the Hardy Boys series, the works for which he is best known today. So, to clarify the book title and series issue: Book 1 was originally published as Rival Ocean Divers Book 2 was originally published as The Cruise of the Treasure Ship Book 3 was originally published as Adrift on the Pacific. Then they were renamed for the Dave Fearless series and more books were added. These three books are under the title of the Deep Sea Series when in their original titles. They were also released under the Sea-Treasure series with a fourth book slotted into the number 3 spot (Jack North Treasure's Hunt) (English, Unclassified)
