DescriptionsEdit Descriptions

This historical fiction series was begun by the Stratemeyer Syndicate with Edward Stratemeyer planning the series and supplying outlines to one of the Syndicate ghostwriters, St. George Rathborne. These were fairly expensive books as issued and the publisher, L.C. Page, planned to sell mainly to libraries in a market that never really materialized. The publisher's official name for the series was the Young Pioneer series. Collectors tend to refer to it with a name that reflects the volume titles. Part of the expense for the volumes was the page count but the books also had more illustrations per volume — typically 8 pictures on glossy paper plus many smaller illustrations on the text pages, endpapers and covers. After years of disappointing sales, Edward Stratemeyer sold the rights to the first six volumes to the publisher. They decided to continue the series and happened to hire Stratemeyer's ghostwriter, St. George Rathborne, for the two titles they added. (English, Unclassified)
