Ai no Kusabi were serialized as chapters in the yaoi magazine Shousetsu June between Dec 1986 & Oct 1987. The chapters were collected & published as a single hardbound novel in 1990. The series was later released in an expanded paperback edition from Seibidō Shuppan under their Crystal imprint. The Crystal edition is incomplete, covering only 6/8 books. Tokuma Shoten later published the complete series in 6 volumes under their Chara imprint; four books are semi-omnibus (vol. 1-4 correspond to Crystal vol. 1-6) & the final two are the previously unreleased material. DMP, as Juné, published the official English language release for N America. It was based on the Crystal ed. but has 8 vol. (= Crystal 1-6 plus Chara 5 and 6).
