So about a month ago, talk of doing an illustration for the New York Public Library began. I was so excited at this opportunity! I've just finished up the art for this gig, and thought I'd share a little of the process.
The illustration is meant to be used on the cover of a handout, which will provide information about the summer booklist. I also did a few spots to place in the interior. The particular booklist I was working for is meant for teens, and the client really wanted something fun and exciting to bring the target audience in.
Okay, so here's the initial sketch. This was approved by the art director at the library, but the client ultimately felt it was too "cutesy" and not "urban" enough.
