Picture by my paternal grandfather taken in approximately 1908. I hasten to add that I'm not in the picture; I didn't even exist, nor did my father actually. Taken facing east on 79th Street from Cheltenham Place, about 4 blocks west of Lake Michigan, on Chicago's south side. The lines in the air are for the street cars (see tracks below) or trolley cars depending on where you are from. I see those close wood buildings and my first thought is of the Chicago Fire of 1871.
