This is a memorial in Berlin, located where Nazis burned books on May 10, 1933. In a murder of words, creativity and spirit, 20,000 volumes were destroyed. Contrary to the HUMAN spirit. The memorial marks the bibliocaust (as THE SPECTATOR termed it). Huge bookshelves -- enough to store the 20,000 lost at the Nazi condemnation -- sit under plate glass. It was designed by designer Micha Ullman (b. 1939). This memorial central message is "Look what happened. Never forget." Thus, it should be as sacred as Pearl Harbor, Auschwitz and the World Trade Center site in NY.
