Our spiritual collection serves the residents and staff of our 400 person continuing care retirement community, located in sight of Sugarloaf Mountain in Adamston, MD.

The Spiritual Library not only enables the diverse spiritual and religious interests of our community, but is meant to be a statement of what we are-- (1) an inclusive and accepting place with a Christian atmosphere of loving-kindness. (2) a place where spiritual curiosity and pursuit is highly valued, and ably sourced for any person at any academic and social ability level.

The Library's primary location is in the front half of the Chaplain's Office, and is viewed as an extension of the Office of Spiritual Life's ministry. It is also networked with residents' own personal libraries , extending an access that reflects our people in both support for neighbor and sharing of personal identity and interests from within one's home.

The Rev. Allen Lincoln has been the chaplain at Acts-Buckingham's Choice since 2001. He writes:

I found out that the otherwise large library at my retirement community not only had no religious books in the past, they were historically forbidden! I thought this very unfair, and as my office is quite large, decided to donate half of it to create a place for as many spiritual books and periodicals as anyone could want. Yes, a little grandiose in vision; but then I then realized we have lots of private libraries everywhere on our campus, and with a networked online catalog we could create a community around books that is more dynamic, expansive and socially empowering than just a single set of books sitting in one room.
