- About My Library
The books owned by Christopher Young (d. 1647) of Wenham, Massachusetts are documented in his will and probate inventory.
In his will, dated 9 June 1647 and proved 7 July 1647, Young writes "I giue my great Bible to my daughter Sarah, and my lesser bible to my daughter mary & a booke entitled Of Gods alsufficiency vnto Christopher my Son, to be carefully p[re]served for them & to there use, to enjoy as a remembrance of my affection & welwishing towards them. & I giue my booke entitled the Deceitfulness of mans Heart to my deare friend Ezdras Read as a testimony of my love towards him."
The probate inventory of Young's estate, taken 5 July 1647 and proved 5 October 1647, includes "two bibles & some other old bookes," valued at £0/13/4 (out of a total estate valued at £51/11). The "other old bookes" may have included additional titles to those included here, but this is not clear.
