- About My Library
- These are the books I have found useful in understanding the Cyprus Problem - some more partisan than others, some more at a tangent than others.
- About Me
- I am British and I love Cyprus - I lived there for four and a half years. Except I actually lived in the British Sovereign Base Areas - the remains of the former colony, kept as a British Overseas Territory for UK military bases - where I worked for the SBA Administration.
I studied ancient Greek from about age 10 through to university and have been to Greece several times (1st in 1974 when no other tourists were there, because of the Cyprus crisis). I have only been to Turkey once, to Istanbul (would like to explore more), but crossed to northern Cyprus several times. I am fascinated by the Cyprus Problem, the history of wider Greek-Turkish relations, and the British colonial involvement.
My take on the problem is that there has been wrong done on all sides, that a solution can only come by compromise, not by legal manoeuvring, but that there are now too many people on all sides with vested interests in the status quo for there to be much chance of a solution, despite the positive approaches of Christofias and Talat.
