The books owned by Lawrence Butler of Westmoreland County, Virginia are documented in the probate inventory of his estate, recorded 28 October 1766. The transcription of this inventory is particularly faulty; it has been checked against the microfilmed original but some questions remain.

The books are valued at £7/4 out of a total estate value of £1417/13.
