I enjoy reading mysteries, feminist speculative fiction, science fiction, some fantasy, newspapers, young adult literature and and just about any other reading material. I read signs, boxes & other packaging because I just can't help it! I am even guilty of reading things upside down in places where it might not be exactly appropriate! In many ways my tag line should read: too much reading material, too little time.

About Me

I would rather be reading. Until the 30th of June I am a Research Coordinator for the Office of Foster Care and Adoption (formerly the Center for Adoption Research) at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. It has been a great job because it allowed me to read! In order to prepare our internal group newsletter I read all sorts of news reports covering everything that is happening in adoption, foster care, child welfare, and training for people who provide mental health and medical care for children in underserved populations. I was the managing editor for Adoption in the United States: A reference for families, professionals, and students published by Lyceum Books. It is an excellent reference for anyone who is interested learning more about adopting a child or children - domestically or internationally.
Some of the books in my library are actually my husband's. He's a software developer, hardware junkie, and model airplane hobbyist - manufacturer of the well known Combat Gremlin, and the new mini-gremlin. Due to the development of the mini-gremlin and other model projects, the deck is still a work in progress - funds are needed to get the materials for the railings!.
Most exciting of all, I finally completed that Master's thesis and graduated in May with an M.Ed. in English from Worcester State University. The title is Anticipating Feminism and Utopia in the novels of Suzy McKee Charnas, Elisabeth Vonarburg, and Sherri Tepper - specifically, The Holdfast Chronicles, The Maerlande Chronicles and The Silent City, and The Gate to Women's Country. When I first read those books I was inspired. Some of my feelings about them have changed, but I still think they are facinating stories that provide interesting perspectives on feminist efforts to envision nonpatriarchal worlds where women can thrive.
We still have hundreds of books to enter into LibraryThing! And I keep buying more, but never manage to sit down and enter them...
