The library of Samuel Hanson of Charles, County, Maryland is documented in the probate inventory of his estate, taken 11 May 1741 and recorded 10 July 1741. It includes five named titles, as well as "A parcel of old books" and "A parcel of old & abused Law books." Together the books are valued at £19/9 out of a total inventory value of £1041/1/5 and 3/4 pence.

Samuel Hanson (~1685-1740) was the youngest son of John and Mary (Hussey) Hanson. He was a planter and held various local offices; he also served in the lower house of the Maryland legislature several times.
