About My Library

The books owned by Samuel Prince (1649-1728) of Hull, Sandwich, Rochester, and Middleborough, Massachusetts are documented in his will and in the probate inventory of his estate.

In his will, Samuel bequeaths to his wife Mercy Prince "my great Bible with Clark's Annotations to it" (Plymouth County Probate Records Volume 5, pp. 748-750). The probate inventory of his estate, sworn to 17 February 1730, includes "a Chest of Books" valued at £13/10 and "Mr Clark's Exposition on ye Whole Bible" valued at 3 shillings. The books were valued at £13/13 out of a total estate valued at £1389/17.

Various of Prince's relatives were important book owners, including two of his sons, Rev. Nathan Prince and Rev. Thomas Prince.
