About My Library
With my particular interest I find the bookstore chains to be disappointing. And while I don't eschew the chains, I rely on the serendipitous. I tend to troll second-hand bookshops, or Alibris Books. There's no feeling like finding a little gem cast off by some other reader. As for the chains, what can I say? They have better coffee.

But I'll only take a book if it is in good condition. I wouldn't have a dog-eared, underlined, coffee-stained book if it were signed by Thoth himself. And because I must snap up books when I find them, I tend to collect books faster than I can read them. But read them I will.
About Me
By day I'm a mild-mannered statistician in Texas. But at night (and weekends) I become a wanderer of the ancient world. I wasn't always this way. When I was graduated from college I was an English lit kind of guy. But several years ago something bit me (oh all right, it was Fagles' translation of the Iliad) and I've been haunting the ancient Mediterranean since. It's not so bad, if you're not a slave (or a woman). Just watch out for those Romans -- they're always looking for more soldiers!
