About My Library

The books of William Casely are documented in his probate inventory, that is, the "inventory of the goods or clothes found, May 30, 1672, on board the ketch Eliza and Marah, when they were at sea, belonging to William Casely, deceased, of Cockwood in Devonshire, said Casely dying when they were about seven days from New England." The inventory begins with the books, which are valued at £0/12/4 out of a total estate value of £10/8/3. Casely's other possessions included mostly clothes and fishing gear. The inventory was attested in Salem court on 28 June 1672.
