The small library of William Scadlock (~1581-1662) of Cape Porpoise, Maine is documented in his will and probate inventory. In his will, dated 7 January 1662 and recorded 3 July 1662, he writes "I bequeath my bible vnto my Sunn William ... I bequeath vnto my daughter Susanna Mr Cottons workes vpon ye new Covenant, of grace: I bequeath a booke Intitled meate out of the Eater to my sun William & to my sun John I bequeath a booke concerneing Justifijing faith & and practice of pyety to Rebeccha ..."
The probate inventory, taken 17 March 1662, includes "4 books, 1 Bible, one saw," valued at £1/5 (out of a total estate valued at £96/9/3).
