About Me
I was born in Louisiana and raised in Texas. I am the son of a Mexican itinerant, George Tamayo, who worked as a postman until his early death. My mother, Ingeborg Wolf, comes from the countryside around Nuremberg, Germany. In 1987, at the age of nineteen, I began study in Theology and German at a seminary in the lowlands of upper Austria. Here I began a faithful relationship with Austria and its capital city Vienna, and found encouragement and nourishment for my narrative voice. From Austria, I went on to study in Spain but left school after a conflict with its authority - yes, it was over a girl. I wandered east into Asia Minor, but a violent encounter with Syrians obliged my return to Austria and Germany. Eventually persuaded to return home for good, I graduated from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, but consider my education and experience overseas indispensable to my life and narrative voice. My first book, Revolution, published in 2008, is dedicated to my mother, and chiefly draws upon the lives and character of the Wolf family. The inspiration to write came from my grandfather, Georg Wolf, the Zirndorf Chief of Police during Nazi rule, who repeatedly risked his life to organize and assist in the escape of many prisoners bound for Nazi prison camps.
