About Me
John dEFROG, the founder of Team Frog International, was born, abandoned, adopted and raised in the Nashville suburbs during the 1970s, an era that is only possible to appreciate through nostalgia, and even then by people who didn't actually have to live through it. Long on dreams and short on ambition, dEFROG changed his name and religion five times (each), washed out of college after one semester and authored several volumes of truly bad fiction (the by-product of reading too many Piers Anthony novels), all by the time he was 18. After his mom physically kicked him out of the house in 1984 for being too nonconformist to join the military, dEFROG got his revenge by enlisting, suggesting that vengeance is a dish best served by people who understand the concept a bit more clearly.
In 1987, after serving at a small town in West Germany, dEFROG returned to the US as an AWOL fugitive due to a series of misunderstandings and the accidental acquisition of invisibility powers. He eventually returned to Nashville, where he joined Polar Bears Unlimited, a punk fanzine which was alleged by its creators to be more fun than sex. dEFROG also began his career in radio, hosting his own program, "Beautiful Music For Ugly People", and producing several award-winning and questionably popular radio drama series, including "Electrocat" and "The True-Life Adventures of Solomon Grundy". Also, 10 years of playing guitar poorly finally earned him his dream of playing in a band. In fact, he has played in several, including Violent Marshmellows [sic], the Avenging Disco Godfathers, Skinless Julia, Buckwheat and Radishes, and Wet Riser.
One fateful night in 1993 (known afterwards as the "Stripping Cop Incident"), dEFROG was forced underground when his outlaw past finally caught up with him in the form of a mysterious agent named Metcalf. Later, after falling asleep in the back of a cheese van, he learned in a dream his real biological father was Texas music legend Roky Erickson, who advised him to fight his pursuers and expose the truth about them by forming a team of professional agents dedicated to the ideals of truth, justice and nude dancing. dEFROG woke up and set about following his dad's advice, and soon emerged in Carbondale, Illinois disguised as a mild-mannered audio production instructor at Southern Illinois University, where Team Frog was launched in 1995. To keep his old friends advised on his whereabouts, activities and physical condition, dEFROG began publishing Go To Hell, a newsletter that was not more fun than sex, but certainly was more fun than having no sex, or reading the National Review.
In 1996, Team Frog went international with the help of international journalist and weapons expert Katie Mak, who joined the team the previous year and shocked Team Frog fans across America by volunteering to date dEFROG despite having no history of mental illness. TFI relocated to Hong Kong, where dEFROG secured a cover job as managing editor of Telephones! magazine. TFI headquarters remains in HK to this day, combating Evil worldwide.
