- About My Library
- I love mainly classic literature for fiction books, although I appreciate well-written, thought-provoking non-fiction from any era.
- About Me
- My books describe me: I'm really all about my kids. My son Andrew is my best-boy-ever. He has Down syndrome and is severely autistic; he's also non-verbal. A lot of people talk about their high functioning kids. All I can say is that Andrew is about as low functioning as they come, and I couldn't be more proud. We'll go to Special Olympics swimming later today, where he'll not quite get the whole "move a body part but don't look at it” thing once again, but friends will cheer us on anyway. My girls are special, too. (I'm SUCH a mom.) Kristen is "twice exceptional" and I started homeschooling for her sake. One of the best decisions I ever made. I loved the years I got to spend with her. She's off now, studying to be a librarian--well, actually, she's studying to be a nerd; St. John's College doesn't have majors--but she's finally found a place where she's weird the same way as everyone else, so we're both happy. My Lady Lauren, at 13, is practically normal (by worldly standards). She wrote her own book this year and has been trying to market it as her school project. It hasn't sold by the billions (or even by the hundreds) quite yet, but she's gotten some nice feedback from complete strangers, so that's a compliment. Other than that, I'm a minister and a minister's wife, whatever good or bad images that brings up for you. My ministry right now is tutoring at a community college. My students don't know I’m a Christian, but some of them cry on my shoulder from time to time, and a couple of them have asked if they can come to my church, which is pretty small. Our community is more like a family than a social club. We laugh and cry together. We love each others' kids and do our best to be servants. I don't think any of us have figured it all out, but we all keep trying. And I think with that I’ll wrap this up. Thanks for reading!
