My physical library is at Hilton Head Prep School on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. I work with ages K-12 but concentrate on middle and high school students and their teachers. Reading, for my students, seems to mainly involve getting through assigned novels and texts, at least for a lot of them. I'm determined to make the library more than just a book warehouse-I kept telling myself I can make this experience anything that I want it to be-it's really up to me to effect change.

I am a transplanted Southern Californian living in sunny, South Carolina surrounded by the beach, books, and a busy family! I grew up enjoying life by the beach in the beautiful, South Bay surf towns of Los Angeles and now I walk my dog on the white sand of an Atlantic Coastal Sea Island.
The ocean and libraries are the connecting lines between my Southern Cal and South Carolina lives. My favorite Aunt and Uncle were children's librarians and their influence pointed my nose right into a book where it has pretty much stayed since then. My first "real" job was as a library page with the Palos Verdes Library District and now, with a slight diversion into accounting and my husband's construction business I'm back into books full-time working as a school library media specialist with just one more class at graduate school to go before I finish a Masters in Library and Information Science. I have a great, supportive husband and wonderful children and am surrounded by students I love to work with! I realize my life is so good when I stop and take stock of all I have to be thankful for!
