My memoir, Damaged: After the coma, after the headlines, the story of a family, is based on the aftermath of an accident that made my sister famous as "Coma Mom" for a few weeks in 1989, and left her with multiple, serious disabilities.

The book covers our family's fight to terminate her pregnancy in hopes of regaining her consciousness, a story that has become relevant again in the post-Roe world.

More than that, the book examines the story that transpires after the newspapers report a happy ending -- she's out of the coma -- and move on to other news. This book is for every mother who gave herself so completely to one child’s needs, she lost sight of everyone else, including herself. It is for every daughter who wanted to rescue her mother, and failed. It is for all the forgotten family members who languish in the shadow of a tragedy.
