I am particularly fond of memoir, personal essay, poetry, and short story collections. While my focus is mainly on nonfiction, I also enjoy the occasional thriller and horror book. I've also developed an interest in children's picture books.

Joy Johnston is a digital journalist and family caregiver advocate. The Reluctant Caregiver, her collection of personal essays, received a gold medal at the 2018 IPPY Awards. Johnston received the 2015 Rick Bragg Prize for Nonfiction from the Atlanta Writers Club. Her work has been published in Chicken Soup for the Soul and other anthologies. She writes about dementia and caregiving on her blog, The Memories Project. Johnston published an e-book, CBD for Caregivers, in 2018. Slow Dog, released in 2022, is her first children's book.
