Retired psychologist who has always read some mysteries, the classics, and award-winning novels but shies away from the "best sellers" lists unless a sample reveals good writing. If there isn't some good character development, there had better be a fascinating plot. Always read psychology, education, and women's studies, but now gravitating toward more non-fiction in history (biographies), astronomy, travel, true adventure, health topics (especially brain research, medical, and aging topics). Oh, yes, I'm a sucker for any good pet story. I have a hard time with most fantasy and sci-fi, although this was more interesting to me when I was younger and exploring my own philosophy.
