About My Library

UPDATED in 2023: My book interests are still much the same, and I still enjoy the authors I listed below. But my library is smaller now than in the past. Even though it lists over 4,000 books in my collection, that includes the collection named 'sold or donated'! (If I decided to part with a book, I don't want to re-buy it later, even if it looks interesting!) At 68, I am still an avid reader, but have come to the realization that with so many books on my 'want to read' list, I probably won't go back and read very many of the books I've already read. The number I re-read is rather selective and includes the Tolkien's LOTR series, King's The Gunslinger series, The Harry Potter series and a few other books. I decided my bookshelves were overcrowded, and someday, my kids would have to deal with all my stuff...unless we downsize ourselves someday. Either way, it was a lot of books to deal with someday, so I started purging books by selling some, and donating a lot to our local thrift stores over the past several years. It is freeing to have less to deal with, and most books are still available at the library or on-line free libraries or pay to read libraries. I have also found the joy of audiobooks that I can listen to via my bluetooth hearing aids. So I can enjoy many books while I'm cleaning or doing chores, running errands, or relaxing. I have been a reader and book collector since I was a child, and while I'm not collecting physical books so much anymore, I read a whole lot more, as I'm retired and have the time now! Love that!

I have a number of themes in my collections:

-Historic books on Civil War, Am. Revolution and a few on the other wars
-Historic fiction of the Civil War and Am Revolution eras
-Have a number of series books: Harry Potter; Lord of the Rings; The Dark is Rising; Gunslinger Series;
-Lots of inspirational fiction/ have lot of favorite Christian authors, such as Karen Kingsbury, Robin Lee Hatcher, Melody Carlson, Nancy Moser,Lynn Austin,Susan Meissner... and many more!
-collection of those nice sentimental stories that come out for Christmas!
-some contemporary fiction: Picoult, Grisham, Kellerman, Koontz and more
-have just about every Stephen Kings book
-young adult fiction: have fair amt of these

About Me

I have been happily married 50 yrs, mother of 2 great kids! I worked 40 years as an RN, always a hospital bedside nurse, (mostly on a CCU stepdown unit), I have now been retired almost 8 yrs, and love it! I have always loved to read, and usually have a book in progress at all times (and sometimes 2)! It's so nice now to have more time to read!! I also enjoy my flowerbeds, doing fairy gardens, and working crossword puzzles and sudoku. We have a blue-fronted amazon parrot named Gracie, who chatters and sings a lot.
