About meA Historical Reference

Belonging in the early years to the Concord Quarterly and Philadelphia Yearly Meetings in Pennsylvania, the Orange Grove Monthly Meeting was organized on December 8, 1907, and met in homes of members until they commissioned the building of this meeting house. The Meeting house was built in 1908 at a cost of $3200. The first meeting for worship was held here on February 28, 1909. The meeting is now a part of Southern California Quarterly Meeting or Pacific Yearly Meeting. An expanded version of the history of Orange Grove Monthly Meeting is available at

The Quaker testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, and equality are derived from the fundamental belief that the Divine Spirit or “Inner Light” is present in everyone and, if attended to, can provide divine guidance and a direct experience of God's presence. Quakers have played leading roles in opposing war, working for peace, promoting racial and gender equality, and supporting environmental and other causes.

About my libraryThis is the circulating collection of the Orange Grove Monthly Meeting (Quaker) of Pasadena, California. New books are added occasionally by donation and purchase. The library's emphasis is on Quaker thought and history, with many books on Bible study and on other faiths. The library also contains a large collection of Pendle Hill pamphlets.
