- I buy books constantly. Mostly from used book stores where I grab anything that looks interesting. When it comes to grabbing new books my technique tends to be looking for trade paperbacks with a neat cover, then I flip through the book to see if it has any weird format to the text, then I'll read a random bit of it. I never read what the back cover says. 75% of the time this leads to an incredible book.

1/2 star- Picked it up, got less than halfway through before I gave up.
1 star- It sucked horribly and I'm never going to read it again. It might have been so bad it was funny. I probably finished it though, if I didn't, I gave up very close to the end.
2 stars- Pretty bad, maybe it had a few good qualities but I won't be reading it a second time.
3 stars- It was a good book, but I can't see myself reading it again any time soon. Or, I really liked the book due to the subject or the characters and will be reading it again, but wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless I know they would specifically like similar books or like the author and just haven't read the book yet.
4 stars- Very good. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new book to read.
5 stars- Perfect. I can't stop thinking about it.
No stars- I haven't read it yet, or I just haven't gotten around to rating it.
