- Range 4 refers to the fourth level of RANGE READING that I have developed to organize children's literature. Range 4 is the level of books that are usually considered beginning readers or chapter books. It is the level above picture books. These books are characterized by thin books, short chapters, and large font size. I have only listed those books that I think have merit to them (and not everything that I have read). Therefore, the five star system is a little different with a one star still representing a good title selection, but a five star rating is an outstanding book and one that I probably have bought for my own personal collection. This list was designed to help librarians and educator's find quality literature to share with young readers.
