- About My Library
- Over 1300 books (probably pushing towards 1500) with 100's of them signed and inscribed to me by the authors (many of whom I know, not just have met once at a book signing).
My oldest book was published in 1687. It is a two volume History of the Ottoman Empire.
My collection includes a lot of science fiction and fantasy, lots of business & economics works, philosophy, history, cookbooks, literary fiction, a serious chess section, some useful computer science works, and a random and eclectic selection of other works. I have a significant stab at a full set of Granta's though I'm still missing a number of the earlier issues.
I probably buy between 4-5 books a week on average - skewed upward by occasional splurges when I find a new author, hit a great used bookstore, or am at a convention. I try to keep up with my friend's publications (though they seem to be writing faster than I can read their works + everything else I want to read).
I do occasionally prune my collection of works I bought but never read (nor have any plans to read) and works I read but would not again/never finished and don't want to.
At the moment my "to be read" pile occupies most of a bookcase in my library. I am, however, making headway, though alas not quite at the same pace as I am buying books. - About Me
- Entrepreneur, writer, cook, walking restaurant guide, conference organizer, occasional speaker, and economist. Not to mention technologist.
I now live in San Jose, CA, having moved to the Bay Area in 2006. I lived in Chicago for 24+ years and I will always call Chicago home. When I moved to the bay area, I left by most everything except my library. As I looked for an apartment, I had to repeatedly explain to landlords and realtors that yes, I really did need a lot of wall space. My new home's build-in bookcases were one (of many) reasons we bought it. - Location
