I'm a bit older than Godzilla, watched the original broadcast of the Astro Boy series, and have been a fan of anime ever since. I finally retired as a database guy, now I work on my 108 secret skills, study ancient & modern polytheist religions, play exotic instruments, and sometimes write things.

I'm anime track head for Penguicon, a convention in suburban Detroit where people celebrate their passions for three dizzying days. I've moderated panels in the Literature track (including authors Amal El-Mothar, Mary Anne Mohenraj, and Charlie Jane Anders) and Programs on the Life and Science tracks.

My novelette, “A Wrecking Bar, a Chocolate Bar, and a Ka Offering for NaNeferKaPtah” is a favorite read for Egyptologists, and “Fowl Fiends of the Great Black Swamp” appears in Down Home Country Vampire. Current musical challenges are Japanese Shakuhachi and Shinobue, and Chinese Dizi and Xiao. To make matters worse, I've got a serpent (instrument) to work on too!
