This book is not very explicit about the human hands, but it does give good details about your hand appearance and what you can use them for. With the science curriculum this book about hands will fall under anatomy. This book is a good opening to teaching children anatomy without the realizing it. This book would pair good with having the children do activities with their hands to show them physically what their hands could do.
This book tells the reader about the different kind of parasites that are on the planet, how they helped shape the earth, and how we as humans can prevent getting bad parasites. This book is so knowledgeable. This book can honestly be used in the science curriculum to teach about hygiene, parasites, the human immune system, and many more other topics. Teachers can divide this book into sections and teach about a different parasite each day as a closing to the class period. I would have loved to learn about lice in school because it was not taught to me. All I knew was the nurse would check students for lice once or twice a year. This book is just filled with so much knowledge that students should be taught. I enjoyed reading this book and learning. I look forward to using this book in a science lesson.
This book is wonderfully written. The book promotes science, recycling, knowledge about microbes, and good hygiene. This book also is not in my opinion to advanced for a young audience because it exposes students to germs and actual good hygiene.
This book can be used in a science lesson or even as a book to read ending a day in class. As a science lesson I would teach this book to explain germs and how germs are microbes that can make people sick. I just love this book simply because it would pair good with also teaching a science lesson about recycling and how the earth can break down food because of microbes. You can do a visual representation of food rotting to explain how microbes break down food. This book is honestly a brilliant way to teach about microbes and how microbes effect humans, the earth, and anything on earth.

In this book it discusses the dessert, different animals, and the Saguaro. This book is a blend between social studies and science. You can learn about the climate and geography of the dessert while also learning about the animals and plants that grow. I like that at the end of the story about the flower their are descriptions of what the animals are that you see throughout the story and their also is a description about the Saguaro. The book teaches students a lot of new information.
This book would pair good with a lesson about different flowers that grow in different climates. You also can teach a class about the different animals that live in different climates. This book can benefit a science lesson or even a social studies lesson on geography.

This book is written for children that are fascinated with geologist and their study of Earths rocks and minerals. This book is highly informative about rocks. This book also is fascinating because it gives a lot of detail on the name of the different rocks, what they are made of, and how they are formed. The book also provides good visual aids to pair with the names of the rocks.
This book would pair good with the science curriculum because you can use it when learning about the different layers of earth. It the book the different layers of how earth is made is provided. You can also use this book in a lesson explaing how rocks are made and you can do a search for different rocks outside with the students. Their are many hands on lessons you can do that this book about rocks and minerals can enhance.

I loved this book. The book tells a story when all the number start to go missing. Additionally, the book tells readers how important numbers are for anything and everything. I like how on some pages their are side notes saying the definition to the words that readers may not understand. I also like how ever numberless object they mentioned in the text had a visual aid in the illustrations. I loved this book a lot simply because it expresses how we need numbers everyday for everyday task in life.
To incorporate this book in a math curriculum I would teach a lesson on numbers and show the importance of numbers. Honestly, I would pair this book with any math lesson because it shows readers why is important and why numbers are important. This book was engaging and rhymed. The book just flowed perfectly.

This book is interesting and full of information. The book does not necessarily have a story line instead it is only about looking for a really big number. First you start with one and the book progresses in adding 0 behind the one’s. Their are also a lot of visual aids that support the text and numbers you learn.
In a math lesson you can use this book for multiplication, learning about billions and trillions or even just how numbers are never ending.
Me personally I like the book, however, I think it is a bit much . The visual aids are great, but all the information the book is trying to tell the readers is overwhelming. Me personally I would section the book off and read certain parts of it as I teach a math lesson on multiplication or how number are never ending. The book progresses well, but it just is a powerful read.

I would enjoy using this book in a kindergarten or 1st grade classroom. The book shows the children the different ways to count to seven using addition. The book also has the ducklings as visual aids for the children to count if they do not understand how to count to seven. I think this would go good with a math lesson on addition. However I believe only lower grade levels can benifit from this book because the text is very simple.
Overall, the book is great and the different events in the story that the ducklings do help distract the children from actually knowing their doing math. This will be a good aid to even a lesson on counting.

This book was an amazing read. The book flows so naturally and the illustrations in the book are powerful. My only dislike about this book is that the characters are African American and the father is in prison. Besides my only dislike I loved this book and the story it told. This book can honestly relate to many African American children in my opinion.
This book discusses self growth and also rectangles and squares. Sophie believes she can’t solve a puzzle and she constantly says she can’t do it. However, with the help of the peer characters and the math teach Sophia discovers that she can.
This book would pair good with the math curriculum when learning about shapes and how to help children believe they can do something in math. I like the confidence the book conveys to readers after Sophie discovers she can do puzzles. I also like how in the book their is a picture of a square and a rectangle. The square says, “rectangle with a sides equal” and rectangle says,” 4 side, 4 right angles, opposite side equal length and parallel”. As a teacher you can elaborate more in a math lesson on what the square and rectangle says .

This book suprised me. I expected the poems to be more math related, however, some poems are brilliant. There are poems that question the reader and there are poems that use mathematical terms. Each poem has a hidden math agenda. There are poems that cover addition, multiplication, subtraction, and etc.
This will be good to use at least one of these poems in the book as a closing to teaching multiplication or etc. The students can answer the questions that some of the poems ask or with the other poems the children can use them to help remember what they learned. I really enjoyed reading this book. Additionally, the children can also use the illustrations to answer the questions in some of the poems. This book is honestly an interactive read and I think using it in the math curriculum will be brilliant.

With this book I intended on it to be about math. However, I discovered how this book could pair good with a social studies lesson.
The book is about a boy who are everything except for string beans and cheese soufflé. The boy ate the different states, the president, and even his parents. This book is also great for children’s imagination. In a social studies lesson you can use this book to describe the different states and why each state he ate had a different flavor or why the pictures in the book for the different states were shaped like different foods. You can also use this book to pair the states with what they are famous for. In the book it says, “first he gulped down China, wall and all.” As a teacher you can explain the wall he gulped down was the Great Wall of China. This book in a way can expose children to the different states in the U.S.

This book emotionally connected to me as a reader. Reading about Hana and the events she went through made me so sad. I like how in the book you are hearing about the search for who Hanna was and also you are being told Hana’s story. I loved this story and how the book constantly switched between Hana’s perspective and Fumiko’s.
I loved this book and I think this book would pair great with a lesson about the holocaust. Children can understand the holocaust better if they understand the events that happened throughout the book.

In this book I learned about Gandhi’s entire life. I learned about Gandhi’s childhood to Gandhi’s death. The book also shows the locations Gandhi has been on a map.
This book is very informative and would pair great with a lesson about Gandhi and his fight for India and its independence.

In this book I learned about Alice Paul and the National Woman’s party. I learned how Alice Paul convinced president Wilson that woman should have the right to vote. The book also talks about the struggles Alice went through when supporting the women’s right to vote.
This book would pair good with a lesson about woman’s rights in general or even how the United States made the 19th amendment. This book honestly would be a good pair to a lesson about how woman received the right to vote.

I had no idea what drummer boys duties in the Civil War. The book also informed me how much drummer boys struggle mentally during war.
You can add this book with a lesson about the different roles in the military during the Civil War. You can also use this book to show the children the perspective that the drummer boy had on the the Civil War.

This book taught me that Paris and the rest of Europe was taken over by the Nazis. You are taken on a journey with the main character and her experience of being a Jew avoiding the Nazis.
This would be a good book to pair with teaching about the Nazis and the Jews. It would also be a good informative book to read to children so that they will understand the Jew perspective when they were avoiding death by the Nazis.

In this book you learn about Anne Frank and the war that was going on between the Nazis and the Jews. The book revolves around Anne Frank and the tree that was outside the attic window. The book taught me that the tree outside the attics window died, but the saplings from the tree have been placed at specific places as a symbol for “freedom and tolerance”.
This book can pair with the curriculum when you discuss the holocaust with the students. This book can also pair with when you discuss war in general and how war affects people. You can discuss with a class how war can change the way people act towards others.

I love this book. I love everything about it. The book is wonderful for students who are blind and also for all students. This book is amazing.
This book was completely heart touching. However, this book was not my interest. This book will be very informative for children. However, this book was to real for me. I wasn’t expecting this book to be so honest about the topic of the war and the main character losing his leg. There was to much sadness going on in the story.
This novel was a very powerful read to me. The story is about a 10 year old girl named Caitlin that has Asperger’s and is dealing with her brother Devon’s death. The author constantly connects the readers to Caitlin by telling the story from her point of view. You will emotionally and mentally connect with Caitlin throughout the novel. Caitlin also is a different 10 year old girl, but the author does not let the fact that she is different define her as a person. The book is mainly about Caitlin finding closure after her brothers death. However, the novel also helps readers understand Asperger ‘s. I just love how reall this book is and how it helps readers understand a person with Asperger’s .
I also like how in the book the author , Kathryn, used a character name Mrs. Brook for Caitlin to in a way relate to. I think it was a good idea to have the main character feel a relation to another character especially with a disability. I just really like the line that states, “we are at recess and I think Mrs. Brook might have Asperger’s too”(pg. 81). The author did a good job by not singling the main character out when she wrote the novel.
I also like the style of the novel. I like how the author wrote everything capitalized to catch our attention when we read certain parts of the novel.

This book was completely different than I expected. This book also had beautifully illustrations. I enjoyed looking at the illustrations. I would love to use this book in a 1st grade classroom and have them use their imagination to guess what will happen next in the story.
I loved this book because not once did it mention Dustin’s disability. It only mentioned the excitement he had at school to see Dave and Skippy. I loved this book.
At first this book confused me. I didn’t notice in the book that the main character was blind until the main character mentioned he had blind sight. I would have not guessed this book was about a child that is blind. It was a good book, however, this book is not my favorite.
I liked the beginning of the book, however I hated the rest. I like how Roo’s disability is not directly stated in the book. I liked how the author portrayed Roo’s and Gracies friendship. However, the book made me upset when Gracie was embarrassed by Roo because she had new friends and Roo was different. I don’t really like the message the book sends to readers. I don’t like how the book ends also. Suddenly at the end Gracie realizes she was wrong for leaving Roo. I honestly just don’t like this book.
I loved the drawings in this book. Also I never read a book about amputees. I like how the book tells the story from Jessica’s perspective and the dogs. I also love the moral message of the story about friendship between Jessica and the dog that helps her with her disability. I think this is a great book for children to read. Children can gain knowledge about amputees from this book. Children can also gain knowledge from the authors note since the book is based on a true story.
I love this book and how the story begins so deeply. The style of the text is so descriptive and you can vividly see the text without the illustrations. I think the story it tells is so beautiful as she journeys in her mind. This a great book to use to benefit children’s imagination. I also like how in the illustrations you can see the main characters imagination compared to how it actually looks in reality. This book helps children see even though someone may be blind they can still live in a beautiful world that they can see through their imagination. She uplifted herself by turning her dark world into a beautiful colorful place. The illustrations just pair with the text beautifully. This book can also express to children that being blind is not a disability. You can still do anything that anyone else can do.
Caminar is a novel written with free verse poems that tell a story from the perspective of a boy named Carlos. The novels setting is in Gatemala during the Civil War in 1981. In the novel you connect with Carlos and see his growth as he loses his childhood and encounters manhood. The novel also takes you with Carlos through his journey of dealing with the war. The novel is so beautifully written. The poems give you just enough information to keep you thinking and interested as you read.
These pictures are different they are not like John Steptoe's typical art. The illustrations are all brown and some look faded. However, they all look very beautiful and different. The illustrations compliment the text in multiple different ways. The illustrations give you as the reader a different insight on the poems.
The illustrations in this book are similar to John Steptoe's first book. I like how the images look like they are done in clay but I think it is just paint. However, the images are beautiful and different. The colors contrast beautifully together. They also are more on the blue and red hues. The illustrations i believe make this book so beautiful.
