This book was a wonderful read. I felt connected to the characters and their dynamics and I appreciated that they weren't perfect. Conflict is inevitable, and the way that these conflicts in this story were brought up, the way they blew up, and they way they intertwined with the main character, Liz's, life made sense.
I appreciated the depth of representation between Liz and her love interest, as it was relatable and realistic– questioning your gender expression and navigating romantic feelings for someone who doesn't fit a heteronormative perception of relationship presentations. Lovely story, easy to follow, and great depth with each character and their relationships to Liz. I also appreciated the fact that it was more than a romance– there were subplots and overarching themes that made the book mean more!

I had high hopes for the plot of this story. The ideas were great, but the changing POVs and writing style made it difficult to fall into the book and feel like I was watching (or experiencing) everything unfold. The idea of getting glimpses into one character's life and perspectives was solid, but the execution wasn't ideal. It took some time to understand the differences between the main character and her love interest, and that's where I couldn't find a flow.
I did appreciate the Asian representation, which the wlw community needs. I also enjoyed the positive communication styles and growth of each character, and what I perceived as a feminine-presenting relationship, allowing for there to be nuance in the expression of the characters, and showing that expression in appearance and character/personality aren't always the same.

One Night in Hartswood: As seen on TikTok! The Duchess of York Historical Book Club pick. A historical romance to warm your heart in 2025. (The Barden Series, Book 1) by Emma Denny
This book had a lot of potential and I believe it met up to some of it! I really liked the main character, Raff, and how he developed. The storyline was a great idea, although I was hoping there was more drama or something to the plot that pulled me in more. This could have been a great story if it were more of a teenage romance– the ideas of longing, mutual respect, and context behind the story would have sold more. Overall I prefer wlw stories so I may be a little bias, but I wish we were able to see more of Raff's family's relationships with other people.
Also, sometimes the dialogue was difficult to follow. Overall, I enjoyed the story and the main characters were lovely. Their relationships with their siblings were lovely, too. Some aspects of the book could have been reworked, but beautiful and authentic story regardless!

I really liked this book. I loved experiencing the perspectives of the main characters and understanding the dynamics of their relationship. This was a bittersweet story that felt like an unfinished circumstance, but ultimately I loved how everything came together. Both authors did a lovely job creating the personalities, the environment, and everything else to do with this story. Would have loved to read this during Christmas time to be even more into the Christmas spirit and appreciate it more, but so glad I was able to read it when I did!
I did enjoy this book and I loved getting to know the love interest. I think the plot and personalities were developed well, even though reinforced many times throughout the story. The end, in my opinion, was a bit rushed and left me somewhat unsettled. It didn't feel complete, but I understood the gist of it. Great storyline and wonderful characters!
I struggled to digest this book while reading due to personal bias, but that doesn't diminish the quality of the story! This book brought up so many questions about what it means to grow outside of the space you're familiar with and how to interact with the world beyond that. The storytelling had a way of creating a sort of polarization of views, but through the eyes of the characters it was understandable and coming from a proper place. Overall, great storyline and props to the author for introducing new perspectives and understandings of peoples' experiences.
This book was so fun to read. The characters blended well and all played a crucial role in developing a heartwarming story. It was relatable with a hint of nostalgia. I appreciated the concept of the story and the way that it was written. Great light-hearted and still touching read! I will also always appreciate Black stories, and this one was beautifully done.
This was one of my favorite reads! The author did a wonderful job developing characters with personalities beyond their love story. The complicated dynamics of familial relationships, as well as the storytelling of it all, were very well executed. I'd recommend this book to people who want to read love stories that are more than just your cliche romance novel. Complex and yet, still beautiful! Definitely touches on more than the cover leads on, but so worth the read.
I really enjoyed this book! I appreciated the individuality of each character, and being able to differentiate between them throughout the story. The relationship dynamics were quite compelling while maintaining a realistic and honest complexity. Great read!
I really enjoyed this book and seeing Guillory step into a more wlw genre. This story had a wonderful lead-up and great plot development. I felt like I truly got to know the characters along the way, and Guillory did well with separating the characters' personalities.
