Chasing Lincoln’s Killer
Written By: James L. Swanson

Can you imagine what it was like on that April evening when the president was just shot, and his killer was on the loose? The story Chasing Lincoln’s Killer was written by James L. Swanson and is a very well written non-fiction book. The book consists of 194 pages and was published by Scholastic Press in 2009. This suspending story takes you through a breathtaking assassin and John Wilkes Booth’s wild escape. The book Chasing Lincoln’s Killer is certainly a unique story because of the drama, tragedy, and manhunt involved in Lincoln’s death.
The book Chasing Lincoln's Killer is set right after the Civil war. It is told from an outside narrator except you get the inside scoop of what's happening. You get to know exactly what happened inside Ford's theatre; you almost get the feeling you’re actually there. In this story John Wilkes Booth is the protagonist, even though he is the villain in the story. He is the protagonist because he is the main character. The search groups (and just about everybody else in the North) are the antagonist because there against him. John Wilkes Booth wasn't the only main character. Abraham Lincoln, the Surratt family, and Herold are also important, main parts in this book. The mood of this book is very gray and gloomy. I felt like it was raining the whole book. Important events in this book were Lincoln's killing, Seward's house visit, the Surratt house visit, and Booth’s barn show more visit.
In the book Chasing Lincolns Killer John Wilkes Booth assassinated the president. He also planned to assassinate others but that plan fails. Once he shoots the president in Ford's Theatre, he runs away. He was on the run for 12 days before he was caught. He was shot in a barn and people who helped him along the way were hanged for helping him.
The book Chasing Lincoln’s Killer is certainly a unique story because of the drama, tragedy, and manhunt involved in Lincoln’s death. I recommend this book to people interested in social studies 10-adult. It is saw at some parts but really kicks up the pace in some parts.
