This is a curl-up-with-a-cup-of-tea-on-a-snowy-winter-day-and-finish-it-all-in-one-sitting book. In a tone reminiscent of Matthew Pearl’s 'The Dante Club,' Andrew Taylor weaves an interesting and suspenseful tale. I agree with other reviewers that there is something missing to tie the plot completely together. I was left with a lingering sense of wanting when I turned the last page. Even with this slight failing, the book is well written, especially as it describes university life in eighteenth century England. In 'The Anatomy of Ghosts,' there is a ghost said to be roaming Jerusalem College. But, it is the people not the apparition that causes Jerusalem College to become an eerie imitation of the outside world, wherein transgressions of class, love, and power have dire consequences. Thank you to LibraryThing and Hyperion for providing this copy to me for early review. I look forward to reading Andrew Taylor’s earlier work.

Excellent so far. I heard Barbara Sicherman give a talk about this book at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. My reading is going slowly now because I have so much to read for classes!
