A really good book that I read through easily and have read it a few times since. Catchy and relatable to teenage drama, the scholarness gives it a human side tangled with the magical, supernatural side of the plot. Although the story is about vampyres, it seems to be more about magical witchcraft at special abilities. The writing is a bit childish but still developed enough to be interesting. It's the first book in a series of many, following the evolution of Zoey in a world where everyone knows of vampyres and she finds herself chosen by the goddess Nyx to become a fledging at the house of night. This first book shows her adapting to her new life as a particular fledging blessed and more powerful who gets bullied by the cruel leader of the dark daughters. The arc of the plot seems to be only an introduction as there is no real ending, making the reader want to continue on in the following books.
